The story
Behind the gym there's a quarter-acre of grass that nobody uses. We want to turn it into the best classroom at Maple Ridge.
The Outdoor Learning Garden will give every grade a reason to get outside. Kindergartners will plant sunflowers and measure them weekly. Third graders will study pollinators. Seventh graders will test soil chemistry and run a rain-water experiment. And everything we grow goes to our cafeteria salad bar and the community food pantry.
Your gift will build:
Families have already volunteered to help build on two Saturdays this spring. We just need the materials.
Kids who grow a carrot will eat a carrot. And they’ll learn more science doing it than from any textbook.
Who this helps
Every class from kindergarten to 8th grade will have a garden bed and at least one outdoor lesson a week from April to October.

Our 7th graders tested the site and it’s a great spot: good drainage and six hours of sun.
